The Bergeron Process

To the tune of "Blister in the Sun," by the Violent Femmes

When you've got water
That's supercooled,
Freezes on to us.
High in the cloud
Ice starts to crowd
It's cumulonimbus.

Let's make it snow,
With the Bergeron process,
Let's make it snow,
The ice in the clouds does the rest.

Evaporation
Is the causation,
Now we even know why.
Snowflakes get bigger,
Just as you'd figure
They fall down from the sky.

Let's make it snow,
With the Bergeron process,
Let's make it snow,
The ice in the clouds does the rest.

Note for those who don't know what the Bergeron Process is: Basically what happens is that clouds are full of supercooled water. It's constantly evaporating and recondensing, because the air in a cloud is saturated. The vapor pressure over ice is lower than over water. So if there are any tiny ice crystals in the cloud, the evaporated water will freeze onto them instead of condensing on the water droplets. The freezing creates snowflakes, which either fall to the ground as snow or melt on the way down and become rain.
